Woman charged in fatal crash at Albemarle and I-485 was driving with revoked license

- A woman charged in connection to a fatal crash that shut down part of Albemarle Road in east Charlotte Tuesday was driving with a revoked license, police said.

The wreck happened just after 2 p.m. at Albemarle Road and Interstate 485. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the driver of a Jeep Wrangler was making a left turn from Albemarle Road onto the interstate and crossed into the path of a Hyundai that was heading the other way, striking it and causing it to go down the embankment.

The driver of the Hyundai, Thomas Edward Emmett, was killed in the wreck. The other driver, Jackie Sue Spaide, was not injured.

Spaide was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, driving with a revoked license, and failure to yield right of way.

Alcohol was determined not to be a factor in the crash.

The 12000 block of Albemarle Road is closed as crews work the scene. It has since been reopened.
