Firefighters build ramp for co-worker who lost leg to accident

- Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief and Concord Firefighter Ray Elmore could be home from the hospital as early as Wednesday night. He lost his leg in a head-on Troutman motorcycle accident last month.

Cool Springs Chief Andy Webster who joined firefighters from his department and Concord to install a ramp at Ray’s home this afternoon. The ramp was donated by Carolina RampIt Solutions and also made possible by Purple Heart Homes.

For Ray’s son Logan, his family and fellow firefighters, support and interest from the community have been welcomed and appreciated.

Air-care wasn’t an option the day of the accident - Webster credits Iredell County EMS with saving the life of his assistant Chief.

He’s looking forward to having Elmore back at the station and says he has paperwork waiting for him.

The wreck occurred in the 1100 block of Charlotte Highway (21) south of Troutman. 

Citing witnesses and evidence at the scene, Trooper Ketner with the Highway Patrol tells WSIC a car operated by Megan Beaver was traveling north on Highway 21 when it crossed the center line and collided with Elmore’s motorcycle.
