Damage report: Severe storms topple trees, bring down power lines across area
Neighbors are just beginning to see the damage left behind after severe storms and possible tornadoes swept through the greater-Charlotte area on Friday.
The wind and rain picked up just around 1 p.m., causing trees to topple and leaving neighbors to deal with power outages. Some roads were blocked by the fallen debris, and crews had already begun clearing them just hours after they’d hit the ground.

Prosecutor: South Carolina 5th grader died of natural causes after school fight
A South Carolina prosecutor says the investigation into the death of a 5th grader last month was due to natural causes and not a fight with another student.
Solicitor Duffie Stone said at a press conference Friday that 10-year-old Raniya Wright died of a congenital condition called an arteriovenous malformation, a tangle of abnormal blood vessels in the brain.
The child had repeatedly complained of headaches in the days and weeks before her death.Read the full article

Man accused of kidnapping, assaulting NC woman in custody
A man who was wanted by the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office for reportedly kidnapping and assaulting a woman is now in custody.
Rosalino Duarte-Cruz surrendered himself to deputies around 7:30 a.m. Friday, April 19 and is currently being held at the Wilkes County Jail. He is charged with second-degree kidnapping and assault on a female. The victim, Lauren Hall, is safe at home, deputies said.
