CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A former Hickory Police dispatcher has been charged in a marijuana trafficking case, according to the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.
Victoria Yang, 22, has been arrested for trafficking marijuana, possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana and conspiring to traffic marijuana after finding 65 pounds of pot in the home she shared with her boyfriend at 4676 Belvedere Dr. in Claremont.
Her boyfriend, Blong Vang, was originally arrested on Jan. 29 and has since been charged with conspiring to traffic marijuana in addition to his original charges, which included one felony count of trafficking marijuana by possession, one felony count of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, one felony count of maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, one felony count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and one felony count of possession of a stolen firearm.
Deputies say the investigation revealed that Yang had knowledge and involvement in distributing large amounts of marijuana throughout Catawba County. The investigation is still ongoing and other suspects both in and out of state are being developed.
The Catawba County Sheriff's Office says they have requested Yang's entries and inquiries for the last two months as a dispatcher from the Hickory Police Department as they are trying to determine if Yang used knowledge from Hickory PD to identify undercover officers or confidential informants.
Jason C. Reid, Captain of the Catawba County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force issued this statement saying, in part: "At the time of Ms. Yang's arrest, we had not received any information from the Hickory Police Department. We found through further investigation Ms. Yang was a co-conspirator though the distribution of marijuana. We did not want to arrest her until we were certain Ms. Yang had involvement in the investigation. Our concern now is if Ms. Yang used her employment through Hickory Police Department to identify undercover officers and/or confidential information law enforcement had been utilizing."
Yang is behind held at the Catawba County Detention Center under a $15,000 bond.
