CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Former Carolina Panther Jonathan Stewart and his wife Natalie are getting results for the homeless. The couple saw a story while on Good Day Charlotte Monday morning and were motivated to make a change.
"Hi friends, we were on FOX 46 this morning and saw the segment about how a lot of the shelters don't have enough room and if you've been outside it's FREEZING so we're going to go uptown to the men's shelter on North Tryon so if anyone wants to join us this afternoon and bring jackets, gloves, hats, blankets, even if it's one blanket," Natalie said in a video on Instagram with her husband.
The couple spent the day accepting donations of jackets and blankets, and brought them to local Charlotte shelters on Monday.
Folks across Charlotte were bundled up during the day this week but overnight temperatures were dangerously cold. The Men's Shelter of Charlotte had just over 400 beds available but right now they are in emergency overflow status.
On Sunday night alone, they prepared for 130 additional people.
