CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Officials have confirmed a rabies case in Caldwell County following tests on a fox on Friday.
Animal Control contacted the NC State Lab of Public Health about a rabid fox in the Green Mountain Park area in Lenoir.
According to officials in Caldwell County, rabies is common in wildlife. Nearly 200 rabid raccoons and foxes as well as 24 rabid bats and 56 rabid skunks were identified in 2018.
Rabies can easily be transmitted to pets and encourage pet owners to monitor pets at all times when going through the parks. Pets should take a vaccination to fight rabies.
Anybody who might have been in contact with the fox is encouraged to contact the health department at 828-426-8400.
