CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The first significant winter storm of the season brought a big freezing rain event to the Mountains and Foothills. Many locations picked up ice accumulations around a quarter to half of an inch.
While the freezing rain did not impact the Piedmont and Upstate South Carolina, heavy rain was an issue for much of the morning. Flooding may still be a problem in a few spots this afternoon, so if you come upon a road with standing water, remember-- “Turn Around, Don’t Drown”!
We will continue to dry out this afternoon as the storm system pulls off to the northeast. A bit of light snow could pop up in the Mountains this evening and early overnight. Snowfall accumulations could end up around 1-2 inches on the highest peaks.
Beautiful weather takes over as we head into Friday and the upcoming weekend.
Today: Clouds and a bit of drizzle at times this afternoon. Then gradually drying out this evening. High: 41.
Friday: Mostly sunny and milder. High: 55.
Saturday through Tuesday: Looking great! Sunshine, with highs in the 50s and 60s.
