Funeral arrangements announced for ER nurse killed in family tragedy

Funeral arrangements have been announced for an ER nurse who was killed after her father-in-law deliberately drove his vehicle into a Bessemer City restaurant last month. 

Amanda Self, who was an ER nurse at Caromont Health, and Katelyn Self, who was a Gaston County Sheriff's Deputy, were killed in the crash. 

Roger Self, a former law enforcement officer, is accused of ramming his Jeep into the Surf & Turf Lodge located on North 14th Street around lunchtime on Sunday, May 20. 

Roger Self's wife, Diane, 53, his son, Joshua, 38, and his 13-year-old granddaughter were also injured in the crash. Diane and Joshua were listed in critical condition.

Amanda Self will be laid to rest Sunday, June 3 at Bethlehem Church at 3100 Bethlehem Church Street in Gastonia. Celebration of her life begins at 4 p.m. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.  

Funeral arrangements for Gaston County Sheriff's Deputy Katelyn Self have not yet been announced.
