Funeral plans announced for Providence Day student killed in Argentina

- Funeral arrangements have been announced for a Providence Day student who died after being involved in a crash while on a school trip to Argentina last weekend.

Deven Lewis Sawyer, 17, passed away on June 23 due to complications following a bus accident in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 

On Sunday, June 17 students and chaperones were involved in the serious wreck while on a school trip in Buenos Aires, according to a release from the school. 

"We are devastated to learn that one of our Providence Day students involved in the accident in Argentina has passed away. The entire school community is now grieving with the family," school officials said in a statement.

Funeral services for Deven will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte, NC 28207. Deven will lie in state at the church an hour prior to the service. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service in Oxford Hall.
