Police: Man arrested on child porn, secret peeping charges

- A man is facing multiple charges after he was caught downloading child pornography, investigators said.

Cameron Franklin, 27, of Iron Station, NC, a former worker at the Chick-fil-A on Park Street in Belmont, is charged with two counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of secret peeping.

Investigators said they received an internet cyber tip, which resulted in the investigation and eventual arrest in this case. The investigation focused on the downloading of digital images. Police said the secret peeping charge stemmed from an investigation of a laptop computer seized from Franklin.

"There’s always a public concern when you have someone charged with this type of crime, even though he's presumed innocent. The public is going to hear about it, and they’re going to be concerned about the children," District Attorney Locke Bell said.

In court, prosecutors told police they went to Franklin’s home and found the photo from Chick-fil-A that they believe was snapped on his cell phone and stored on his computer, as well as other child porn.

Prosecutors asked the judge to increase Franklin's bond in court Wednesday, but the judge kept the bond at $150,000 and ordered Franklin to be on an electronic monitor if he makes bail. Franklin cannot have contact with children and he is banned from using the internet.

Franklin has been booked into the Gaston County Jail on a $150,000 bond. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. W.M. Sampson at (704) 866-3320.
