CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - "We love those kids and this has by far been the worst day of my entire life," Grandfather Greg Moore said.
He and his wife Tina fought back tears Sunday afternoon.
"This is something no parent should have to go through," Moore said.
According to CMPD, Christina Treadway, 34, killed her two children, 7-year-old Isaiah Miller and 3-year-old Iliyah Miller before taking her own life by jumping off the I-485 bridge near her home.
The grandparents telling FOX 46 the children's father was a good boyfriend and dad. They add their son was out with friends when he received a text from his longtime girlfriend saying she's going to end it all.
"He went out with his friends for the Eagles game. She texted him saying that she loves him and she's sorry and that she's going to end it all and the kids," said Moore.
"What she did is unbelievable," he added.
"He has never ever been abusive, his kids love him, he's a great father, a great son and I love him dearly. Right now, I don't know how he's holding up. We're a basket case and he's holding us together," Moore said.
The father saying he was too distraught to be on camera but added he's been with Christina for a decade. Although the family can't understand why Tina would harm her kids, the grandparents want their son to do all he can to honor his children.
"I just feel bad they won't be able to grow up and be the good people they are suppose to be. I told my son you're going to have to live their life for them and we're not going to forget them," Moore said.
"We are not going to forget about Tina. She was a great mom," said the grandmother, Tina Moore. "She was really, really a great girl. I love Tina to death, but she was just troubled. I don't know what happened because she came and stayed at my house for the summer. I don't know what happen, she just lost it," she said.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by the father of the children.
