ROCK HILL, SC (WJZY) - UPDATE: Just hours after FOX 46 Charlotte's story aired on a Rock Hill man whose Walmart Green Dot balance disappeared - Green Dot contacted the man and fully refunded all of the missing money - and then some!
Check back for further updates.
FOX 46 Charlotte is taking action and getting results after a father said he can't get access to his own money. The Rock Hill man said there's more than $1,000 missing from his Walmart Green Dot account.
"Thank you for calling the corporate resolutions department."
Neil Lea said he's been making this same phone call every day for two weeks to the Green Dot prepaid debit card company.
He's trying to activate his new Walmart money card and find out why his last paycheck isn't showing up on his account.
"This is something I have no control over and that's the most frustrating part. You've got the largest corporate group in Walmart and they are giving me no answer whatsoever. No answer," Lea said.
Neil Lea is a single father of two. He said without access to his account, he's had to borrow money to feed his family.
"Their school is sending home letters that their lunch is in the negative balance which is very embarrassing because I have the money. I have bills piling up. My phone is set to get cut off today," Lea said.
Even his 8-year-old son is picking on up the financial struggle.
"The other night, he brought me his bag of coins and set it on the bed and said, daddy, don't worry, we have money. That broke my heart," Lea said.
FOX 46 Charlotte got results. We called the Green Dot debit card company. They told us Lea's account balance would be corrected and his card activated within 48 hours.
Green Dot acknowledges having technical issues affecting card holders nationwide.
There's even a disclaimer on Lea's Green Dot account apologizing, but Lea said, "Sorry don't pay the bills when I work hard for it."
