Statesville police officer shot, suspect on the run

- A Statesville police officer was shot late Friday night, according to the Statesville Police Department.

Multiple agencies are on scene at 5th St. and W. Raleigh Ave. investigating after Officer Tyler Horn was shot once in the back by an unknown suspect around 11:00 p.m.

Police say Horn and another officer were on foot patrol in the area when a suspect came out of the shadows and began firing shots at the officers from behind.

Horn was hit. He was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital in a patrol car, treated and released early Saturday morning. His bulletproof vest took the brunt of the shot and he was not seriously injured.

The suspect is unidentified and is still on the loose at this time.

Bridgett Nesbit, who lives in the 1200 block of Fifth St. posted video to Facebook from the front yard of her home. In the video, you can hear her say "shooting on the south side," and "officer down."

Nesbit tells FOX 46 an investigator told her the incident occurred either near or in her yard.

"We heard three large booms and then I saw snipers and a sea of PD," she said. "Officer said the [police officer] shot was on foot patrol and he was placed in a patrol car and rushed to the hospital."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406 or call Crimestoppers at 704-662-1340.
