Homes damaged by storms in Huntersville

- For the second day in a row, severe storms caused damage across the area. The crackling and sawing of downed trees is becoming a familiar sound in Huntersville.

“I stopped and looked when I crossed the road and just said oh my,” said Keith Westmoreland.

Westmoreland was shocked to see a giant tree, laying on top of his brothers home. The tree actually split down the middle from strong winds. Luckily, no one was home, but damage is extensive.

“It knocked everything off the walls. It’s all laying on the floor now. This house has been here for 35 years. And no damage from trees so this is heart breaking,” said Westmoreland.

FOX 46 Charlotte was stationed in Huntersville as the fierce storms rolled through, whipping around trees and rain. Our reporter captured a time lapse that showed the storm clouds developing, before dumping buckets of rain.

“Wind was blowing hard, bending over a lot of 60 foot maple trees in my yard and you could probably see 10 feet outside the house from the rain,” said Westmoreland.

Within an hour of the tree falling onto his brothers home, crews were already on scene removing limbs from the roof.
