CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Human remains found Thursday afternoon behind a north Charlotte elementary school are believed to be that of missing 25-year-old Sam Davis, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Investigators said the remains were found about 2:51 p.m. Thursday in a wooded area off the 4900 block of Hucks Road, near Croft Community Elementary School. A teacher was retrieving a ball that had gone over a fence while students were playing outside and found the body, police said.
“My heart dropped," said Justine Mcevoy, who lives across the street. “It’s very scary considering I walk my children out here, I walk at night and it’s a safe neighborhood.”
No students observed the remains.
Davis was reported missing in that area on July 3, 2018. He was last seen leaving the house on foot carrying a mini skateboard with green wheels that he used for transportation.
"It’s so disturbing and unfortunate for that family,” said Mcevoy.
Detectives said they found no physical signs of trauma. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
