Huntersville mom says children's bus stop is in dangerous location

- FOX 46 is working to get results, after getting another complaint from a parent about the school bus system at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

This time, a parent sent us an e-mail saying, in part:

"I am beyond angry at how CMS transportation and the buses and bus stops are being done-- dropping my two little kids off on the opposite side of a busy street, Old Statesville Road."

"I just wish they'd listen," said Kayla Romero. "I feel like my voice is not getting heard."

She says she's fed up.  Her seven-year-old and eight-year-old both ride the bus home from Huntersville Elementary.  In this case, though, it's where the bus is making the stop for them to get off that has her heated.

"It's dangerous," she said.  "My kids are getting dropped off on the opposite side of the street and they're in first and second grade.  Cars don't stop nowadays, even with the red stop sign out."

She says every year, she complains about her children crossing the street.  Last year, something was finally done halfway into the school year.

"For four years now, I've contacted CMS Transportation and proven it's an unsafe stop."

CMS says parents need to contact transportation in these situations and fill out an unsafe stop request form-- both of which Kayla Romero says she's done.

"I fill out one for each child," she said.  "So they get two forms every year from me."

She just wants something to be done now so that nothing goes wrong later.

"There's nothing we can do about the cars because people break rules," she said.  "But why not prevent something from happening."

CMS says every unsafe stop request is looked into.
