Indian Trail adds 'Purple Heart City' signs to area streets

- Drivers traveling through Indian Trail may have begun noticing new signs posted at some of the gateways to the town, highlighting Indian Trail's recognition as a Purple Heart City.

The honor recognized Indian Trail as a home to a number of brave men and women who've been wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart - and the Town's mission to honor them.

The designation is awarded to municipalities by the Purple Heart Foundation. Indian Trail was added to the list of recognized towns in 2014.

"It's a small token of our appreciation in recognizing those that served our nation during time of conflict," Mayor Michael Alvarez said in a written statement, released on Thursday. "And it's a reminder to all of us that our freedoms come with a price, and many have paid for our freedoms with their lives."

The Indian Trail Works Department has installed 10 Purple Heart City signs at entry points to the Town. They will also install a Purple Heart Parking Only sign at the new Town Hall when it opens later in 2017.
