BURKE COUNTY, NC - An infant found not breathing at a home in Connelly Springs passed away Tuesday due to it's injuries, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office.
The Burke County Sheriff's Office arrested a couple on felony child abuse charges after the infant was found.
The incident happened on Sunday, Jan. 31 at a residence along Sunset Grill Street in Connelly Springs.
Upon arrival, first responders performed CPR on a 3-month-old infant male. Deputies say the infant was then taken to Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory for treatment.
Deputies say they also discovered the infant had a twin brother who was still at home with the father, Nicholas Brandon Clark. Upon further investigation, deputies arrested both parents Brittany Nicole Hefner and Clark.
Both infants were then transported to Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston Salem.
Hefner and Clark are both being held on a $75,000 secured bond.
The investigation against Clark and Hefner is ongoing. The Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the District Attorney and further charges are pending.
