Investigators: Fire in Mount Mourne ruled suspicious

Investigators have ruled an overnight fire in Mount Mourne as suspicious and are asking the public to help determine what sparked it.

According to Mount Mourne Fire Chief Roger Hoover, crews from Mount Mourne and Mooresville were on their way to put out a grass fire on Interstate 77 around 10:40 Saturday night, when several people called 911 reporting flames near the intersection of Alcove Road and Templeton Road.

Firefighters arrived to find a house engulfed in flames.

It took a more than an hour for firefighters to gain control of the fire.  When the fire was extinguished, the house was badly damaged.

Chief Hoover says no one lived in the home at the time and there were no reported injuries.

If you know any information that can help investigators learn what started the fire, please call the Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office at 704-878-3035.
