HARMONY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A startling case of potential child abuse was discovered in Iredell County on Saturday. Deputies say they found three young children at a home in Harmony living among unsafe conditions.
The investigation started after a three-year-old child was brought to a local hospital with severe burns that investigators believe were caused by extremely hot water.
The parents, 21-year-old Amy Clew and 23-year-old Justin Osborne were arrested and charged with felony child abuse.
The man who rented the home to the couple on Boger Farm Drive tells FOX 46 Charlotte he had no idea the two now stand accused of child abuse.
On Saturday, a three-year-old child was rushed from the home by ambulance with severe burns. Investigators say the burns appeared to be a few days old, on both feet and legs, coming from scalding hot water.
According to police there were also injuries on the child consistent with an assault.
The father, Justin Osborne was interviewed at the hospital and arrested.
Back at the home, the step mother of the injured child, Amy Clew, was also taken into custody.
The three other children living in the home are now in the care of social services.
At last check, the three-year-old is still in the hospital in critical condition.
