CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Thousands of Duke Energy customers in Mecklenburg County and throughout the western part of North Carolina are without power after Irma battered the area Monday.
As of 3 a.m., Duke Energy reported 11,110 outages in Mecklenburg County, as well as several other thousand in surrounding counties including Gaston, Rowan, Cabarrus, Cleveland, and Union. In South Carolina, more than 1,200 customers lost power in Lancaster County and another 1,591 in York County.
In total, Duke Energy reported more than 58,000 outages in North Carolina and 101,000 in South Carolina.
"We are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore all outages; however, customers should prepare for extended outages that may last a week or longer. Estimated times of restoration will be provided when available. Thank you for your patience," Duke Energsy stated on their website.
