YORK, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A juvenile has been arrested for reportedly making threats towards a school in York County on social media, according to the York Police Department.
At approximately 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, police received a call from a man stating that his son had read a post on social media that referenced a person making threats involving a school in the York School District. York police then notified a school resource officer of the alleged threat.
The school resource officer was able to identify the juvenile who made the post and with assistance from the York County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security they responded to the juvenile’s home where the threat began.
The posting was confirmed to have come from the juvenile who was then arrested and transported to a juvenile detention facility, York police said.
"Due to the quick response and apprehension, there is NO credible threat that students or parents in the York School District should be concerned with in reference to this incident," the York Police Dept. said in a post on social media.
Additionally, York police said, "In light of recent incidents involving schools in our country, any perceived threat towards schools or students is taken seriously and will be dealt with accordingly."
