KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A Kannapolis taxi driver was shot early Friday morning during a robbery.
“All I saw was police, police, police, detectives everybody,” Vincent Davis told FOX 46.
Davis described the scene he came upon after a fellow taxi driver was shot during an attempted robbery Friday morning.
“It was chaos; it was really chaos. Thank God it wasn't me in the situation at the same time it's like wow people will really steal and are that naive that they will come to somebody's business where they try to make an honest living,” Davis said.
Kannapolis police say around 6:30 a.m. on Friday two men dressed in black tried to rob Carolina Taxi.
Employees tell FOX 46 the victim, who goes by the name Gadget, was shot twice and is expected to be ok.
Davis, who is also a driver, says Gadget defended himself by firing back at the suspects.
“He's really just a cool person. He's down to earth. I don’t really have a bad thing to say about him. It was just wrong place wrong time.”
He says the shooting is even more troubling because it's so close to the holidays.
“It’s going to change his whole Christmas. It's going to change everything for him. He's not really going to get to have the Christmas he wanted but still have his Christmas,” said Davis.
He also had a very direct message to those responsible for the shooting.
“He got a gun. I got a gun too. I’m not going to shoot to wound you, I’m going to shoot to kill you. that's it,” he said. “It’s just that simple. I got a purpose out here and it's for my kids so I’m not going to let anybody take my life from me
The business reopened around 11:30 a.m. and police say the investigation is ongoing.
