LANCASTER COUNTY, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A bus driver was bitten by a pit bull while trying to help a young girl who was being chased by the animal, according to the Lancaster County School District Safety and Transportation Facebook page.
A young girl began screaming as a pit bull-type dog charged at her from the house next to hers. The girl threw her backpack at the dog and it retreated.
The girl had already gotten onto the bus when the dog came back towards her. The bus driver tried to shut the door, but the dog charged through a small opening and bit the bus driver on the elbow as she was trying to keep it away from the other students.
The driver’s elbow was looked over by medical staff at the school. No students were injured during the incident.
Lancaster County Animal Control has been notified and is conducting an investigation into this matter.
“Our bus driver who is in her first year did an excellent job in protecting our students. We appreciate her quick response. This event places emphasis on the many hidden dangers that drivers encounter every day and the importance of their jobs,” the Facebook post says.
