HARRISBURG, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The Cabarrus County Sheriff tells FOX 46 Charlotte that a 15-year-old led deputies on a police chase that ended in Harrisburg Tuesday afternoon.
The chase ended in a crash just after 12 p.m. at the intersection of Harrisburg Veterans Road and Stallings Road. According to Harrisburg Fire, at least one person was trapped inside their vehicle. At least one person was taken to the hospital with a concussion.
The chase started when Cabarrus County deputies were made aware of a stolen car out of Charlotte that was headed towards Harrisburg.
This is at least the second police chase in a month in our area that ended in a crash involving innocent drivers. Another happened in August on US 74 in Union County.
FOX 46 Charlotte checked in with local departments to see what the protocol is for police pursuits. CMPD says it is up to a supervisor to determine if a chase is becoming too dangerous.
In Union County the sheriff's department follows a similar protocol, but the deputy leading the chase can also make that decision.
