CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after someone pointed a green laser at an inbound plane near Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
The incident happened at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17. A Charlotte-Douglas Air Operations employee notified authorities of the laser pointing at an inbound Delta Airlines flight. No one was injured during this incident, police said.
Statement from the Federal Aviation Administration:
"The crew of Delta Air Lines Flight 2409 reported that a green laser illuminated the cockpit on final approach to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport at 11:30 p.m. yesterday. The Boeing 717 flight originated in Atlanta."
Those caught pointing a laser at a plane could face felony charges and spend five years in prison. The FBI is known to offer up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in these types of cases.
No other information has been released at this time.
