Letter: Student brought loaded gun to Rocky River High School

- Parents received a letter Tuesday morning confirming a student was caught with a loaded gun at Rocky River High School.

Mint Hill police said at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 they were called to the high school in reference to a 14-year-old student who may have a gun in their possession.

The student was removed from class by school administration. Upon speaking with the student, police said they discovered the teen brought a Taurus 9mm handgun to school in their backpack.

Police said the student was taken into custody and eventually released to the custody of their parent. A juvenile petition will be filed with Juvenile Court Services.

Mint Hill police said there is no indication that the student ever removed the weapon from their backpack while on school property.

In the letter addressed to parents on Tuesday, officials said no one was hurt following the incident.

Letter sent out to families Tuesday, November 21:

"Good morning Rocky River High families,
