Loaded gun found on South Iredell High School's campus

- A student was taken into custody after a loaded gun was found on the campus of South Iredell High School Friday morning, school officials said.

School administration noticed that a student who checked in late to school was acting abnormally and suspected that he might be under the influence, according to a letter sent home to parents from Principal Tim Ivey.

The student told school officials he had a weapon in his car. That's when school officials, working with Troutman police, found the loaded gun inside the car.

"I would like to ask parents to take this time to discuss with their children the serious consequences that follow when a student makes a decision to bring inappropriate items to school,"  said Principal Ivey. "Students who make this choice will be disciplined according to the ISS student code of conduct."

The student, a minor, was taken into custody.
