CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Thousands of people are already starting to evacuate from coastal areas of the Carolinas ahead of Hurricane Florence.
The general manager at Hyatt House in Uptown Charlotte says business travelers were already canceling their hotel rooms on Monday. People from the coast were already calling and asking if the hotel would stay open during the storm.
Hyatt House has experience with hurricane evacuees. In 2016 hundreds of coastal families came to Charlotte to escape Hurricane Matthew.
For Florence, there are hotel rooms available, but the general manager says this storm is different. He expects less evacuees circling Charlotte as their safe place.
"There is a very good possibility of the storm coming right in to where we are so I don't think you're going to have a lot of people wanting to leave a coastal area because of the storm and go to another storm ridden area," said general manager of Hyatt House, Matt Allen.
Hyatt House is also preparing for the hurricane by loading up on bottled water, flash lights and glow sticks.
