Long lines at Discovery Place for solar eclipse glasses

- The solar eclipse will be here on Aug. 21. Most people are excited to witness this once in a lifetime event, but while the excitement is high, the search for solar eclipse glasses is even higher.

Most places across North and South Carolina have sold out of the glasses. Even online retailers have sold out and can’t guarantee the glasses will arrive in time.

While the list of trusted retailers with proper eclipse glasses continues to dwindle, Discovery Place in Uptown Charlotte provided a last minute chance for excited eclipse viewers to pick up a pair.

Over 500 people lined up to buy eclipse glasses as early as 6 a.m. Thursday morning, Discovery Place distributed tickets for 1,000 pairs of glasses at 11 a.m.

They started selling the glasses for $5.00 each at noon. There was a limit of four per family. The long wait in the heat and humidity was well worth it for many who value their vision and don’t want to risk it.
