Man accused of lying naked at Rock Hill pool

- A man has been charged with indecent exposure after lying naked at a public pool in Rock Hill, police said.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10 at a community swimming pool in the Sweetwater Plantation neighborhood.

Officers responded to the caller's home, located along Anvil Draw Place. The man said he and his two young children arrived at the pool and saw an older man, identified as John Cafarella, standing beside the pool, not wearing any clothes while wringing out his bathing suit.

The man said he told his children to 'look the other way' while they walked past Cafarella to the other side of the pool. He said Cafarella then sat down on a chair beside the pool naked for about five minutes, while 'moving his hand in an up and down fashion near his groin area.'

The man told Rock Hill police that he approached Cafarella and asked him to put his clothes on because children were present, at which time Cafarella reportedly said, "They can't even see me, they're across the pool." It was at this time the man left the pool with his children.

Officers were able to locate Cafarella at his home on Rough Hewn Lane. Cafarella admitted to police that he took his bathing suit off while at the pool, and changed into a pair of dry shorts. He said no one was at the pool when he did this.

Cafarella went on to say he was sitting down on a chair beside the pool, naked, with a towel covering his waist. He told police he was trying to change into a pair of dry shorts but due to his old age, he 'moves slow.' Cafarella has been charged with indecent exposure.
