Man accused of sexual assault on McAlpine Greenway

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged a man for a sexual assault that took place on the McAlpine Greenway.

Officers responded to the 7400 block of Terrace Drive on the McAlpine Greenway Tuesday around 5:15 p.m.

The victim told officers she was walking on the greenway trail with her dog when a man stopped her to talk with her about her dog.

The woman told officers the man took a sock out of his pocket with a blunt object inside and hit the victim several times in the head.

The man dragged her to a wooded area and sexually assaulted her. He then fled the scene.

The woman was able to get back to the trail and found someone who called 911. 

Officers were able to quickly find the suspect located in the 10600 block of E. W.T. Harris Boulevard. Officers found the the victim's cell phone on the suspect, identified as Strudwick.

Strudwick was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was charged with first degree forcible rape, armed robbery, two counts of first degree forcible sex offense, first degree kidnapping and possession of marijuana.
