CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - One man has been arrested for shooting, killing a woman Wednesday near a men's shelter in uptown Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
CMPD arrested Marquise Detrea Teeter, 38, and charged him with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police said information and evidence gathered during the investigation led detectives in identifying Teeter as a suspect in this case.
Earlier on Friday, October 28, detectives with CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team coordinated with the Rock Hill Police Department in arresting Teeter. He is currently in the custody of the York County Sheriff's Office. There is no timetable for his return, police say.
The female victim has been identified as Brittany Carelock, 27. Her family has been notified of her death.
The shooting occurred at 3:22 p.m. Wednesday, October 26 along the 900 block of N. Tryon Street.
Upon arrival, police found Carelock suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on scene by Medic.
CMPD said the preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect and Carelock knew one another.
The area was shut down for several hours on Wednesday.
