Man charged in deadly hit-and-run brought back to Charlotte

- The suspect involved in the deadly hit-and-run of a 6-year-old was transported from Texas to Mecklenburg County, NC early Tuesday morning. 

Juan Antonio Quintanilla-Garza, 32, was brought back around 1:27 a.m. Tuesday, May 24.

Police said he is facing felony hit-and-run charges, and reportedly has an I.C.E. hold on him. He is being held on a $250,000 bond. 

They said Quintanilla-Garza turned himself in to the Webb County Sheriff's Office in Texas on Sunday, May 1, 2016. 

During the ongoing investigation CMPD detectives received a tip on April 26 that a vehicle matching the description of the wanted van was located in the 9800 block of Idlewild Road.

Detectives responded to the scene and confirmed that it was the suspect vehicle.

Police said 6-year-old Anthony Santos Castellon-Rivera was hit by a car and killed in the 1300 block of Eastway Drive.

Officers said Castellon-Rivera and his family were attempting to cross the street when a white work van with a ladder rack on top fatally struck the boy.

Witnesses said the van came to a stop, the driver got out of the van and then re-entered the van and drove off.

This investigation is still active and ongoing.
