Man charged with rape, kidnapping of woman in northeast Charlotte

- A man has been arrested in connection to the rape and kidnapping of a woman last week in northeast Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a 24-year-old woman was walking from the area of North Tryon and 26th Streets at about 3:45 p.m. July 27 when the suspect offered her a ride. Instead of taking her home, police say the suspect drove to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her. The victim was then left in the 400 block of W. 24th Street.

The suspect, 38-year-old Robert Thorne, was arrested Friday morning in Rock Hill, SC. He is charged with rape, kidnapping, assault on a female and interference with emergency communications.
