LENOIR, NC - A Lenoir man is charged with slashing the tires of 47 county owned and personal vehicles parked at the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office and Health & Human Services Building (HHS).
Carlton Brandon Couto, 23, was arrested and taken into custody just before 4 a.m. Monday as he was standing near the R.H.A. building, right beside the sheriff's office and HHS building.
According to Caldwell County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called about a disturbance at Couto's house about 10 p.m. Sunday night. home. After deputies left the home with no charges filed, the reports say Couto came to the grounds of the Sheriff’s office and Health & Human Services Building and was caught on surveillance video slashing the tires of 35 County vehicles and 12 personal vehicles with a knife. Only one vehicle did not have all four tires slashed. Two of the vehicles also had rock damage to windows. The knife used in the damage has not been recovered at this time. It is believed that Couto was traveling on foot.
He is charged with 47 counts of injury to personal property, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held under $70,000 bond in the Caldwell County Detention Center.
