STATESVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A man who was arrested on cocaine and stolen weapons charges in July is now charged in connection to a shooting incident this month in Statesville, police said.
Craig Alan Blackwell Jr. is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of firearm by felon, and discharging a firearm in the city.
Statesville police said Backwell turned himself in to authorities on Thursday, August 24. They said Blackwell was being held on a $275,000 secured bond.
On Tuesday, August 22, police responded to a shooting at the corner of Park and Bristol Drive in Statesville. Upon arrival, officers found a 26-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and is expected to be OK.
Statesville police said the investigation revealed that the 26-year-old man was on a moped at the intersection when Blackwell, driving a red and black moped, drove by and shot the victim.
This is not the first time Blackwell has been arrested.
Blackwell was taken into custody in July after authorities discovered crack cocaine and a loaded AR-15 rifle among other stolen items inside an Iredell County home, police said.
Blackwell was charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, felony to maintain a vehicle/dwelling or place to sell controlled substances, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and three counts of felony possession of a stolen firearm in connection to that case.
