Man facing two murder charges after second body found in Lancaster Co.

- Arkevus Jimon Cauthen, 28, is being charged with a second count of murder relating to the death of two Heath Springs residents.

Deputies with the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office were called out to 71-year-old John Harden Duncan's apartment at the 100 block of Clyde Street at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night after a relative went to check on him and found him unresponsive on the floor.

Emergency medical services and deputies confirmed Duncan was deceased. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday morning but it appears Duncan died of stab wounds, according to deputies.

Sufficient evidence was found by SLED to charge Cauthen with murder in the stabbing death of Sandra Johnson, whose body was found in her home early Tuesday afternoon on Depot Drive.

Cauthen was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a search of his home. Johnson and Duncan are within walking distance of each other, according to police.

Sheriff Barry Faile said, “We are continuing to investigate these cases. We do not yet have a motive for these murders but hope our investigation will tell us why they occurred. We are confident Cauthen committed both of them, and I want to assure the citizens of Heath Springs that a killer is not on the loose. We extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Ms. Johnson and Mr. Duncan.”

Anyone with information about this or any other case should call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
