Man fires gun over girlfriend's head in presence of child, deputies say

- A Union County man is facing multiple charges after he fired a round over his girlfriend's head during a heated argument in front of a child, authorities said.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19 at a home in the 5000 block of Pageland Highway. Deputies were called to the home in reference to a report that "a man shot himself."

Once on scene, deputies and first responders determined no one had been shot but rather gunshots had been fired during an argument between two people.

Deputies said the suspect, David Allen Myers, 37, got into an argument with his girlfriend. A child and another woman were also home at the time. Myers and his girlfriend were in a bedroom arguing when the child opened the door and saw Myers on top of his girlfriend pointing a handgun toward her head and reportedly said, "If he could not have her then nobody could."

Myers then turned the gun on himself and fired a round into the ceiling before falling to the ground, deputies said. The investigation showed Myers also fired several rounds into the ground outside.

Union County Department of Social Services was called to the home.

Myers is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, and misdemeanor child abuse. Additional charges are possible, deputies said.
