CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A pedestrian was killed Tuesday night after being hit by a car in southeast Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
The pedestrian has been identified as Lal Than Zuala, 51. His family has been notified of his death.
Officers said the victim was crossing in the 6100 block of E. Independence Blvd. when he was struck by a 2000 Ford Focus around 7:50 p.m.
The driver of the Ford, Donna Parrish, was located on scene and did not sustain any injuries.
According to police, the Ford was traveling southeast on E. Independence Blvd. in the second lane from the concrete barrier when the vehicle struck the pedestrian who was crossing E. Independence Blvd. Police said the pedestrian was not in a designated crosswalk.
Police said the driver was not impaired and excessive speed is not suspected. Alcohol use by the pedestrian is suspected. This crash remains under investigation.
