GASTONIA, NC (FOX 46) - A 3-year-old boy remains in the hospital Tuesday night after his older cousin hit him with his vehicle while backing out of the driveway, according to the Gastonia Police Department.
The accident happened at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 28 in the 1400 block of Caldwell Street.
Gastonia police said Gene Kendrick, 21, of Cramerton, was visiting family when he backed his 1998 Lincoln passenger car, striking his 3-year-old cousin.
The Gastonia Police Chief tells FOX 46 Charlotte the young boy sustained extensive injuries to his face. He was taken to Caromount Regional Medical Center and then flown to Carolinas Medical Center for his head injuries and specialty of care provided at Levine Children's Hospital.
Police said the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
This case remains under investigation by the Gastonia Police Department. No charges have been filed.
