Man killed, wife flown to hospital in Rowan Co. crash

- One man was killed and his wife flown to the hospital following a crash Monday afternoon in Rowan County, according to Highway Patrol. 

The accident happened around 2:15 p.m. Monday, June 6 in the 9000 block of Old Concord Road. 

Police said a Honda Civic was traveling south on Old Concord Road, while a 1958 Chevy was traveling north along the same roadway. 

The Honda Civic reportedly went off the road to the right and overcorrected – crossed the center line and struck the Chevy head-on.

Jimmie Long was pronounced dead on scene. His wife was flown to CMC Main in Charlotte where she is in critical but stable condition.

The other driver of the Honda Civic was taken to CMC northeast with a broken collarbone. Police said the driver of the Honda has been charged with reckless driving and misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Excessive speed is not a factor in the crash at this time. 

The official cause of the crash remains under investigation.
