GASTON COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A man who reportedly attempted to set himself on fire after leading police on a chase is now accused of burning a home in Gaston County.
Christopher Brannon Watkins, 26, is charged with fraudulent burning of a dwelling home, burning personal property, and felony flee to elude.
On the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 20 police responded to a fire at 110 Landau Cr. and discovered a domestic situation had occurred and police were told the mobile home was set on fire by Watkins. He fled the area before police arrived on scene.
Police said there was no one inside the mobile home at the time of the fire. Watkins' wife had collected belongings and the children before leaving the home.
Watkins was found by police in the early morning hours of Thursday, Sept. 21 in Gaston County. Police attempted to pull Watkins' vehicle over but he refused to stop. Watkins eventually stopped on Bessemer City Road near Myrtle Avenue.
Watkins surrendered to police, but not before setting fire to his vehicle.
