ROWAN CO., NC (WJZY) - A local man was sentenced this week to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of a Rowan County firefighter.
Khari Dewayne McClelland pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in connection with the death of firefighter Marcus Kauffman in 2013.
The Rowan County District Attorney said that McClellan was also sentenced to additional years for felony weapons charges.
His plea allowed him to avoid the death penalty.
The District Attorney's Office said that they were “taking into account the family’s wishes as far as how they wanted to see this case closed."
