Man shot in the head during alleged break-in attempt in Rowan County

- A man was shot in the head during an alleged attempted break-in incident early Tuesday morning in Rowan County, deputies said.

The shooting happened at 5:08 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 185 Longfield Drive in China Grove.

Upon arrival, deputies with the Rowan County Sheriff's Office found a white man who had been shot, but was conscious and talking. A resident of Clearfield Drive, identified as Scott Moose, made the 911 call.

Moose told deputies on scene he had video of the man, identified as Jason Lee Lambert II, 19, attempting to break into his car on Clearfield Drive. Moose said once he confronted Lambert, he went to a car parked nearby at an abandoned house on Longfield Drive.

During an exchange between the two, Moose told deputies he fired one shot from his handgun which struck Lambert in the head area.

Lambert was transported to North East Medical Center and then transferred to CMC-Main for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

Deputies have collected evidence and statements from those involved in this incident. The sheriff's office said they'd also been called to at least two other addresses in the area for vehicle break-ins Tuesday morning.

This case remains under investigation. Once all evidence and statements are collected, investigators will present the information to the Rowan County DA to determine what the appropriate charges may be.
