Homeowner charged with murder after shooting, killing alleged intruder
BURKE COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A Morganton man has been charged with murder after a man was found shot to death inside his home Wednesday after he reported a 'breaking and entering' incident, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office.
Steven Adam Taylor, 38, has been charged in the murder of Kevin Lewis McSheffrey, 33.
Deputies were called to a 'breaking and entering in progress' along Gold Mine Road at 7:41 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8. in Morganton. Upon arrival, they located McSheffrey dead from a gunshot wound.
Deputies said upon listening to the homeowner's story of the events and conducting a preliminary assessment of the scene, a search warrant was issued for the home.
After processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and conferring with the DA, a warrant for murder was issued for Taylor. He's currently being held without bond.
