Man shot to death in Albemarle, police seek public's help

- The Albemarle Police Department is requesting the public's help after a man was discovered shot to death overnight in the small city. 

Officers were called to N. Seventh St. between East Main St. and Pee Dee Ave. around 12:54 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a shooting. 

Neighbors reported hearing loud talking and several gunshots just before calling 911. 

Once on scene, officers found a man, identified as Mondrell Walter Leake, lying in the roadway stating he'd been shot. Officers rendered first aid while waiting for Medic to arrive, but Leake died on scene within minutes. 

Police are looking for a possible suspect vehicle of a red passenger car, possibly a Honda or Acura and an unidentified man wearing all black leaving the scene of the crime.

Investigators have questioned numerous people about this incident but needs the community’s help with identifying the person(s) responsible.
