Man surrenders in front of CMPD building after leading police on chase

- A man who led police on a chase that ended in east Charlotte surrendered in front of a CMPD office building Thursday afternoon.

Highway Patrol pursued the suspect, who was wanted on felony probation violation charges.

The suspect fled from police until stopping and surrendering at the Hickory Grove Division Office.

“It was actually peaceful that's the crazy part about it so I don’t know why he ran because it was peaceful,” said Rio Sampson who was across the street while the pursuit was in progress, catching portions of it on his cell phone.

The suspect was then loaded into an EMS vehicle.

“Half of the police squad was out here," Sampson said. "This is crazy. I never saw a police chase live.”

Rio said he's happy no one got injured in all of the chaos. “He didn’t hit any cars or anything like that so it kind of good it ended peacefully."
