Man takes his own life after SWAT call-out in Monroe

- A SWAT situation unfolded just outside of downtown Monroe after a man refused to go with police officers and then fired shots inside of his home, ending his own life. 

Monroe police said at 6:16 p.m. Thursday, August 24 the man was being served paperwork that would have him involuntarily committed to a facility. 

Police said the man slammed the door in their faces and just minutes later they heard what they believe were gunshots from inside the home. 

Police then moved away from the home and called in SWAT. Monroe PD said they haven't heard anything from inside the home for hours. 

It was later confirmed by police the man took his own life. The individuals name is not being released at this time.
