Man with gun causes cancellation of Avett Brothers concert

- An Avett Brothers concert scheduled for Saturday evening in Troutdale, Oregon was canceled minutes before show time because of an armed man who passed through security and blended into the crowd.

According to a press release by the Avett Brothers, a man that passed through a metal detector was found to be carrying a gun. When confronted by security the man presented a badge and said he was an out-of-state police officer. Security asked the man to wait while the venue manager was notified but he disregarded the officer and ventured into the crowd. After an exhaustive search of the venue by security, the individual was not located.

The Avett Brothers said "Due to the obvious threat posed by someone in the audience with a firearm, regardless of his (unconfirmed) claim of being a member of law enforcement, we were obligated, for the safety of everyone present, to cancel the performance."

The group says the concert will be rescheduled, but a date has not been announced.

The Avett Brothers, a Concord North Carolina-based folk rock band, is on a North American tour promoting their Grammy nominated album "True Sadness."  The group just announced two concerts scheduled for Charlotte at the Bojangles Coliseum on Sunday, December 30 and Monday, December 31. Tickets for those shows go on sale Friday, July 13 at 10 a.m.
